What’s been happening:

After retiring from Union Carbide back in 1997, I helped to found the Mid-Atlantic Technology, Research and Innovation Center (MATRIC) in 2003-2004, where I now serve as the Chief Engineer and Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors. The company is located at the former Union Carbide Technical Center in South Charleston, WV. Today MATRIC's a vibrant, rapidly growing research, development and engineering company of well over 100 employees and a business focus stretching around the globe. Our business areas include chemical and environmental technologies (including biotechnology), advanced engineering systems (advanced software development for NASA, DoD, DOE and Homeland Security), and health and allied sciences. Our chemical and environmental customers include various government agencies (~1/3 of the income) and a large number of commercial companies (2/3 of the income). And we are solvent. At home, my wife Judy (also a Penn State Graduate) and I celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary last year, having been married while we were at Penn State. We have two sons, two daughters and six grand-children. Life is good.
